The Luchtsingel bridge in Rotterdam was executed as a crowdsourced project in order to connect three different districts of the city. Started by Zones Urbaines Sensibles (ZUS) the project was executed as a part of the 5th International Architecture Biennale 'I Make Rotterdam'. About 17000 wooden slats were sold for 25 Euros each for the project, finally painted yellow after the assembly. These are engraved with the names of those who contributed for the making of the project. The total length of the bridge is 400 m, and it stitches the otherwise fragmented parts of the city by crossing over a road, railway and left over neglected sites that were once a vibrant part of the city.
When we visited the project in May, we read boards that the project is scheduled to be dismantled. Exposed to weather, part of the bridge had begun to deteriorate, moreover, other parts were being occupied by homeless.
